Cowlitz, Clark & Skamania Counties – Oak View Site Director

Tyler McKay, LCSW

With lived experience growing up in foster care, I know the systems of care that are meant to support us, don’t always get it right. As I entered the profession of social work, I quickly realized every family has a different need and every entity within the system of care has their idea of a different solution. I immediately began searching for an approach that resonated with me. I explored residential treatment, independent living programs, and houseless continuum of care. After graduating with a Master of Social Work and aspirations to travel but little financial means, I landed a job just outside of London, England, working for the county locality team. This locality team had some elements of a community-based approach that made sense to me. It was upon my return that a friend told me about Catholic Community Services of Western Washington, and I instantly was drawn, not just to the community-based approach, but more so the humanity and dignity toward families that broadcasted throughout the halls of every site in the CCS system.

I have now been with CCS as a clinician, clinical supervisor, clinical manager and as the Family Behavioral Health: Vancouver – Oak View site director over the past 15 years. I have grown through FBH, as well as supported growth of FBH staff and families; while simultaneously watching my own family grow. Outside of FBH, the things that keep me happy … I like to try to fix or build just about anything, coach young athletes, backpack with my family, and snowboard on a fresh layer of powder. But enough about me … what are you passionate about?
